The Ting Tings singer Katie White forgot to turn on her guitar amp before her first live show.
Jules De Martino, drummer for the chart-topping group, admitted that their first gig was a disaster.
"We did our first proper gig at the Birmingham Barfly," he told the Daily Star. "It was where Katie picked up the guitar for the first time - but she couldn't get a sound out.
"She had to ask the audience what to do and they shouted back: 'Turn the amp on.'"
De Martino added that his off-the-cuff recording techniques helped contribute to The Ting Tings's sound.
He said: "I was sticking cheap microphones on the floor to record my drums and Katie was sat singing on a chair with a pneumatic drill going off outside.
"I didn't care if it was wrong as long as it sounded good."
