Originally started one dark in the early '90s as a way for some of the members of the Finnish alternative rock banding Kumukameli to pass the time after a show, Eläkeläiset took popular songs and added a traditional Finnish humpah (or oompah) element to them, albeit with modern instrumentation. With Onni Varis on keyboards, Lassi Kinnunen on piano accordion, Martti Varis on bass, Petteri Terävä (wHO was later on replaced by Petteri Hanonen), and Jouni Hukka on drums (world Health Organization was by and by replaced by Kristian Voutilained), and all bandmembers contributive to vocals, Eläkeläiset experience released numerous albums, including 1995's Humpan Kuninkaan Hovissa; 1996's In Humppa We Trust -- Live!, which showcased the exuberance of their live show; 2000's Humppa-Akatemia; and 2003's Humppaelamaa, the first base of the band's records to include exclusively original material.

DC Comics' "Red" getting big-screen treatment
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Summit Entertainment is entering the comic-book adaptation business, picking up the movie rights to WildStorm/DC Comics' "Red," which revolves around a former CIA agent.
The project marks the first time that a DC Comics title is leaving parent company Time Warner's fold. Still, DC will remain an active participant in its adaptation.
The three-issue comic series, published in 2003, told the story of a former black-ops CIA agent now living a quiet life in retirement until the day a high-tech assassin shows up intent on killing him. With his secret identity compromised and his love interest in danger, the man must reassemble his old team to figure out who is after them. The book was written by Warren Ellis.
Brothers Erich Hoeber and Jon Hoeber are writing the action film. Their adaptation involves the idea of an older operative who's set in his ways and must contend with younger and more fit agents as well as modern techniques and technology.

Phoebe: The Price Is So Wrong
A-list nobody Phoebe Price may have finally found a way to make herself memorable -- taking a picture of her loose, pasty, anatomically incorrect backside!
Phoebe, age unknown, took time out of her busy schedule of standing outside the Ivy begging anyone to take her photo -- to flash her congealed body, while doing something resembling a cartwheel on the beach this weekend. She's not ready for her closeup.

Carl Barat: 'I'll recover in time to play Glastonbury'
Carl Barat has declared he will play this weekend's Glastonbury festival - despite being rushed to hospital last week (June 17).
The Dirty Pretty Things frontman was diagnosed with a acute pancreatitis after suffering from stomach pains. However he is now on the mend, and is confident he'll play this weekend's (June 27-29) festival.
"I am feeling much better, almost as good as I ever do. Its not as bad as I thought, it appears that the pancreatitus was probably caused by a combination of the medication I was talking (for congestion that I still get after my ear operation) and maybe the odd drink too many," Barat told NME.COM.
"I was discharged from hospital at the weekend, which was liberating," he added. "I have been told to take it easy this week and I shan't be over exerting myself, which may be difficult as the LP is out next week and there are rehearsals to be had. Anyways, as long as I behave I should be right as rain before you know it. We play in Switzerland on Saturday and then I will be doing an acoustic set at Glastonbury on Sunday (June 29) (for Jail Guitar Doors/Real Fits). Got to go, things to do slowly"
NME.COM will be bringing you full coverage from this year's Glastonbury including news, pictures, blogs and video interviews -
live from Worthy Farm, so if you're not at the festival make sure you're here.
